The Donor Oocyte Program offers new hope for women who have a normal uterus but have declining or no ovarian function resulting from:
  • Absence of ovaries
  • Chemotherapy or radiation therapy for cancer
  • Advanced reproductive age
  • Premature menopause
  • Natural menopause

Additionally, women who carry a genetic defect who want to prevent passing the trait or disease to her offspring may consider the use of donor eggs. Finally, individuals who have experienced failed IVF cycles thought to be related to poor egg quality might consider egg donation.

Egg donation involves the removal of eggs from the ovary of a donor who has undergone ovarian stimulation with the use of fertility drugs. The eggs are then placed together with the sperm from the recipient's partner allowing for in vitro fertilization. The resulting fertilized eggs (embryos) are then transferred to the recipient's uterus following hormonal preparation.

Recipient couples must be married and in good health. All recipients are screened medically and psychologically. Egg donors may be known or anonymous to the recipient couple. All donors are screened medically and psychologically to assure they are healthy and free from any known genetic or infectious disease. Anonymous egg donors are available from our donor registry.
